Traditional Moroccan Hammam

The skin is one of our biggest organs so it deserves some well-earnt attention. The hammam not only cleanses your skin but the ritual itself is an active and holistic way of washing away the old before beginning the new. Your traditional hammam begins with the warmth and relaxation of the marble and tadelakt, as you begin to unwind and let go. Next, Moroccan black soap made from organic olive oil is applied to your body, you are then scrubbed by our hammam lady with the local kiss or mitt. This detox clears all the debris and pollution from your pores and gets the blood rushing to your skin. Doused with warm water and left with beautifully soft skin, Rhassoul (a mineral-rich mud) mixed with Argan oil or Eucalyptus for sore muscles is then smoothed over your body to nourish and hydrate your skin – the perfect antidote to the harsh and drying Saharan sun. A rinse of uplifting orange blossom body wash then completes your treatment. 

Optional Extra: A nourishing hair treatment can be added to this treatment on request.

Massage Therapy

Our massage treatments are offered by Touria and Samira, who are expert massage therapists. All treatments use our fairtrade organic Argan oil, which is rich in vitamin E, sourced in Tiznit from a ladies co-operative we support. Riad Zamzam’s superb spa team are miracle workers at relaxing, unwinding and unknotting your body using deep tissue work. Following this lymphatic cleanse, you are encouraged to relax further whilst sipping a cooling lemon, mint and honey spritz prepared fresh by our chef.

Water Therapy

Water is an important feature in Morocco – both physically and spiritually. “Zamzam” is the holy water (spring) initiated by the Angel Gabriel. This holy spring is part of the Haj or pilgrimage to Mecca. Being so close to the Sahara Desert, temperatures in Marrakech can soar to 45+ so there’s nothing more refreshing than a cool dip in our plunge pool at Riad Zamzam.
